Carlos Manrique de Lara, MD, F.A.C.S., Medical Director
Dr. Manrique is a dedicated Rio Grande Valley eye doctor specializing in refractive surgery. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Eye Surgeons, he is the Medical Director of Manrique Custom Vision, a leading Texas Z-Lasik and eye surgery practice with locations in San Antonio, Harlingen and McAllen-Edinburg.
Dr. Manrique was a professor at the University of Texas and has been a professor at Texas A&M University and the Scott & White Clinic. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and International Society Refractive Surgery. Dr. Manrique de Lara is a trainer and proctor for the IntraLase and WaveLight Laser systems. He is also a Medical Advisor for the Blade-Free Ziemer Laser (Z-Lasik).

Sairah Malik, OD Clinical Director
Dr. Sairah Malik, a Texas licensed optometrist and certified glaucoma specialist, serves as Clinical Director for Manrique Custom Vision. She is also board-certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Originally from Canada, Dr. Malik completed her undergraduate coursework at The University of British Columbia. She received her doctorate at The University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Malik has had extensive training in refractive surgery and cataract surgery while working at several LASIK centers in Canada and the United States prior to joining Manrique Custom Vision, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge in primary eye care and laser vision correction. She currently manages the optometrists for Manrique Custom Vision.

Idean Nikrooyan, MD
Born and raised in Texas, Dr. Nikrooyan received his medical degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock graduating one of the top in his class. After medical school, Dr. Nikrooyan completed his transitional internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth gaining a wealth of knowledge . Following his intern year, he returned to Lubbock to complete his Ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University where he was chosen to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Nikrooyan completed a Fellowship in Cornea, External disease, and Refractive surgery at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan, New York.
His varied medical experience ranges from treating veterans and rural West Texans in a level-one trauma center to performing refractive surgery for clientele on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. A well versed surgeon with empathy for all of his potential and existing patients.
Dr. Nikrooyan has joined the Manrique Custom Vision Team with the vision of improving the quality of life for his patients in our community through one of the many refractive procedures he has been trained to do.
Michelle Garza, OD
Dr. Garza, a board-certified therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist. She specializes in the treatment of ocular disease and management of pre and post-procedural care for Manrique Custom Vision patients. Dr. Garza has over 10 years experience in caring for patients following laser vision correction, cataract surgery, and Intacs, including post-Intac contact lens fittings.
Dr. Garza is an active member of the Rio Grande Valley Optometric Society and the Texas Optometric Association. She has also undergone successful laser vision correction herself at Manrique Custom Vision where Dr. Manrique performed her LASIK surgery.
Rakesh Lakhani, OD, Diplomate, American Board of Optometry
Dr. Rakesh Lakhani grew up in Austin, TX and earned his psychology degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He then graduated as class valedictorian from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry. While in optometry school, he served as a tutor and lab assistant and was the student liaison to the American Academy of Optometry. He also received awards in clinical excellence and contact lens patient care. Soon after, he completed his ocular disease residency at Omni Eye Services of Atlanta. Dr. Lakhani is an active member of the Rio Grande Valley Optometric Society, the Texas Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. He also board certified by the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Lakhani is excited to join the Manrique Custom Vision team and strives to deliver quality eye care for his patients.
Ida Reed, OD
Dr. Reed, is an accomplished and passionate Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist with over 20 years experience taking care of thousands of eyes. She completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A& M University – Corpus Christi, and received her Doctor of Optometry at University of Houston – College of Optometry. She did her externship at San Antonio Eye Institute and Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio Texas.
Dr. Reed is an active Member of the Rio Grande Valley Optometric Society and the Texas Optometric Association. She has extensive experience in complex Contact Lens fitting and Prokera Bio-Corneal Bandage device; as well as treating dry eye, and managing glaucoma patients.
Dr. Reed is excited of becoming part of the Manrique Custom Vision team.
Heriberto Manrique, Administrator
Heriberto Manrique de Lara attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas where he received his Bachelor in Biology and Chemistry. He also attended Yale School of Management in Summer of 2006 – Ophthalmic Administrator program. He joined Manrique Custom Vision as Assistant Administrator in 2003. In early 2005 he became Administrator for the practice. He has been part of the successful growth of the practice and has overseen the development and opening of offices in Harlingen, The Woodlands, and San Antonio.
“Beto” Manrique is a member of the Association of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), and has served on the Board for the Better Business Bureau for Houston and Rio Grande Valley, and the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as Vice Chair of International Trade. He is a former member of the Kiwanis Club and was founder of the Mexican Student Association in St. Mary’s University.

Richard Doinoff, Director of Operations
Richard is Director of Operations for Manrique Custom Vision. He started out at The Woodlands location 7 years ago. After helping build the clinic he was transferred to the newest location in San Antonio where he oversees marketing and patient satisfaction. Extensively trained in all aspects of the eye, Richard has consulted thousands of patients on LASIK, PRK, and ReSTOR lens for cataracts.
Prior to his role at Manrique Custom Vision, Richard started his career in refractive surgery in Dallas, TX where he was Marketing Manager for a busy practice. He also spent 12 years serving his country in the US Navy, with several tours overseas and ended his career in recruiting duty. Richard then spent time as Director of Admissions at several schools. Richard has 3 children who are the center of his attention when he is not at work.
